Ben and Katie {5.21.16}

Ben and Katie got married on May 21st at Indian Ridge, in Highland, NY. The couple have been very close friends of ours for years, and we couldn’t have been more thrilled to be a part of their big day! They hired an amazing team of professionals, and incorporated so many unique and quirky touches into their day; it truly was a fantastic celebration!

Fun touches:

  • Ben and Katie have 5 dogs- all 5 got to be a part of their bridal party, complete with special “corsages” for their collars
  • In lieu of favors the couple made a donation in each guests name to ‘The Farm Fund‘, a resource for pets in need of critical care
  • They both adore the color purple and New Balance sneakers, so each had custom New Balances made with ‘Just Married” on the heel
  • Potted plants with popsicle sticks inside were used as their place cards
  • Being huge fans of the band Phish, the couple named their tables after shows they had seen
  • Last but not least- they even had a self-serve bourbon fountain!

Ben and Katie- congratulations, and we love you!!

Table Numbers they don’t have to be boring!

Unless you’re doing open seating table numbers are inevitable. Yeah, you can use the standard numbers that your wedding venue most likely can provide, but to add a little more pizzazz to your tables, why not try a unique idea.

I love this idea because then you get to include something for guests to look at while at their table and also gives them the opportunity to visit other tables and look at more photos.

I had a couple last year who did flowers as their table numbers and on the back of each card they looked up each flowers meaning. I though this was a great touch! And for each favor at that table they did seeds from that flower.  They coordinated each centerpiece to match the tables so the guests could find their tables easier. This is a little bit harder because the room still needs to look put together, but they pulled it off.

You can also do this with spices, trees, and even vegetables.

One of my favorite ideas is naming your tables after different places.

You can choose places that have special meaning to you as a couple, such as your first date or places that you have visited. You can also do different places in the area. I always love it when couples write a little bit about the place, that way people can learn why it is important to you or a story about what happened when you were there. Was that where your first apartment was? Is that where you two met? Do you go on vacation there every year? What is the funniest thing that happened and why is it so important?

This one really allows you to add personality and your own touches to your wedding and include your family and friends into your personal lives.

This one kind of ties into the one above just with a different twist. You can take pictures of all your travels and on each table do a different pic of you and your new husband/wife.

It really adds that personality and personal style to your wedding.

I think the overall goal and idea behind any part of your wedding is to make it your own. Don’t feel like you have to do things a certain way because that’s what tradition says or that’s what everyone else is doing. It’s your big day and it only happens once make it your own and most of all have fun with it!

Think out of the box for your reception entertainment

I’ve been in the wedding planning business now for about 8 years. I have seen a lot of unique ideas as far as entertaining the guests with something other than just a DJ. Now, many people go the route of a photo booth or a candy buffet, but there are so many other ways to make your wedding stand out and make it a day for guests to remember.

I love the idea of having a professional dance team come in and teach a few dances this not only gives the kids something to do during cocktail hour, but it entertains everyone while the bridal party is out taking pictures. There is also of course, the classic first dance choreography

Another idea would  be a mobile cigar lounge , Belly Dancer, an ice carving demonstration, ice luge or sculpture, or of course fun dessert ideas.

I think the most important part about your wedding is to keep it personal and fun.
