  • A butterfly release during the ceremony in memory of lost loved ones
  • A bluegrass band played during cocktail hour

Megan & Bryan {5.16.16}

Megan and Bryan got married on a beautiful May day at the Elm Rock Inn, in Stone Ridge, NY. With wonderful food, an incredible photographer (his blog post here), gorgeous flowers, and an amazing DJ, (not to mention the delicious gluten-free cupcakes for dessert!), we don’t think the day could have been any more perfect!

Megan and Bryan incorporated so many fun details into their special day. We loved that they used a framed “theater poster” of the two of them as their guestbook for friends and family to sign (they met on the set of a play). There was also a “message in a bottle” station where guests could leave funny notes or helpful advice for Megan and Bryan to open and read on their first anniversary. The couple also took the time to hand-paint all of the mason jars that were used in their centerpieces, and they looked fantastic!

Some other fun details:

  • Burlap pinwheels lining the aisle (also made by Megan)
  • A remembrance table in memory of people very close to the couples hearts
  • Kazoos for after the ceremony
  • An after-party bonfire, complete with smores!

It was a very special day for a very special couple; Congratulations Megan and Bryan!

5 Unique Ceremony Ideas

1. Matt and I built an arbor similar to the one above. We took birch trees that came from our property and built an arbor, that has sentimental value! It also adds a personal touch to your ceremony. Can also create a very easy Huppa with the same concept.

2. For those really hot summer days, why not put one of your engagement photo’s onto a fan for your guests to use and then keep as a memento

3. This is similar to the one above. But Jeanne decided to have her programs printed on the fan. It saves paper and also is a really cute way to display your program.

4. Personalize Aisle Runner

5. A cute alternative to the sand ceremony or unity candle would be for the whole family to light a floating candle and send it up, to symbolize unity.

Floating Sky Lanterns and Floating Water Lanterns are also fun ideas that all the guests can participate with, they also make amazing pictures!

Do you have any unique ceremony ideas?

What to do with those kids??

No one is saying you have to invite children to celebrate your wedding day. That is completely up to the bride and groom. But, what do you do with children who are attending your wedding?

The most important thing is have something for them to do!

This will give mom and dad a break and let them have some fun but it will also avoid those temper tantrums.

Here are some tips for having children at your wedding

  • Hire professional babysitters
  • Make a separate room or table just for the kids and the babysitters.
  • Have a kids menu or a kids buffet that comes out as soon as possible for the younger ones. Hungry kids = cranky kids.
  • After those kids are fed have something for them to do. Go to the local toy store or even the dollar store and stock up on all those fun things for the kids.
  • Have a scavenger hunt! Create a list of fun things to find at the wedding.
  • Have dress up clothes for them to play with.
  • Of course have coloring books, crayons, stickers, and scissors.
  • If your at a barn or an outdoor venue have them play games like tag, Simon says, red light, green light, one, two, three. I’ve seen adults get involved in these.
  • If you want to go extravagant hire a company that does bounce houses. That will tire them out quick.
  • Have the babysitters bring the children snacks of fruit so they are not all jacked up on sugar to go back home with mom and dad.

I think the most important thing for children is keep them busy and get them away from mom and dad so they can have fun too. Be creative!!
